Want to quench the shopaholic in you? Refer to these top shopping destinations in Kolkata!

Shopping is therapy. Whether you are in a sullen mood or just bored, shopping can heal your temper as well as take your boredom away. From cosmetics to shoes to furniture, purchasing new products can enliven your shopaholic self and refresh your frame of mind for new experiences. So, if this is something you are really fond of, then try your hands at the local produce of Kolkata exclusive markets. With an old-world charm, this place has some of the best collections of souvenirs, Kolhapuri chappals and Paithani sarees that will compel you to buy more from ‘City of Joy’.

While I planned my stay at my sister’s place, I went to explore some of the renowned shopping destinations that this place has for its residents. And trust me, I had an incredible experience that was beyond my expectation. Due to the fun experience I had here last time, I am planning to book my flight ticket again to this beautiful destination with Intermiles. In case you are planning a trip to any other metropolitan city, apart from Kolkata, Intermiles also provides attractive discounts on Bangalore to Mumbai flights, Mumbai to Hyderabad flights, Pune to Goa flights and more.

Now coming to the top shopping places in Kolkata. The following are the destinations that I am planning to visit again.

College Street

College Street is the one name that comes into everybody’s mind when talking about the shopping destinations in Kolkata. Many bibliophiles accumulate here to buy second-hand books at affordable prices. Stretching for over 900 metre in Central Calcutta, this shopping hub is primarily famous for its book varieties. Here, you can get books in all genres, editions and languages. Boasting publishing houses such as Ananda Publication and Dey Publication, this shopping place also has an age-old coffee house, renownedly acclaimed as the Indian Coffee House. With the cafe featuring rich historical significance, you just cannot leave the place without having a cup of coffee from here. I bought some books of Satyajit Ray from these stalls and decided to have some refreshments from Coffee House. As soon as I entered, there was a sense of satisfaction that will immediately strike me as I took a seat at this nostalgic site.

New Market

A not-to-be-missed shopping destination list in Kolkata is incomplete without New Market. For people who are brilliant at bargaining and also for those who are not, this place sells good quality products at an unbeatable price range. Featuring 2000 stalls across the street, this place sells varieties of clothing materials, bags, cosmetics, sarees and footwear. You can get them all at Lindsay street where the New Market is located. I came here on weekdays during the evening around 1 pm hoping that I would face less crowd while shopping. But I was completely surprised at how the place stays crowded even on weekdays. This spoke a lot about the importance it plays in the heart of the local residents.

Burrabazar Market

If you are looking for a wholesale market in the city of Kolkata, drop by Burrabazar Market. This market has everything to quench all your thirst for shopping. Here, you can purchase footwear, clothes and festive products such as sweets and other products of idol decoration. Situated near the M.G Road Metro, this market has four parts namely Dhotipatti, Fancypatti, Tulapatti and Chinipatti. All these parts are open from 10 am to 7.30 pm and stay closed on Sundays. Their vast collection is one of a kind in the city. I visited this place to meet a friend and had no intention of shopping howsoever, but I was so allured by the earrings and nose rings, some stall offered, I bought some for myself to match with my puja outfit. The price at which they sell products in the market is the real catch of this destination.

South City Mall

Moving on to a renowned mall in South Kolkata, South City Mall is another happening shopping destination for everyone in Kolkata. Here, you will get everything for your friends, family and kids. Since the mall sells branded products, it is cheaper in comparison to the above places. However, if money is not your concern, you can come here and shop your heart out. Boasting a classy ambience, South City Mall also has a food court and movie hall within its property. After spending a busy day shopping, you can go for a movie or have refreshments from the food court. Since I am a huge fan of Keventers, I got myself a cookie shake after I was done shopping. It was not only rejuvenating but also true to its taste.

Mani Square Shopping Mall

My favourite and soon will be yours, Mani Square Shopping Mall justifies the hype it makes. With over more than 2000 customers paying a visit to its 250 plus shops, this mall is the best place to get souvenirs for yourself as well as your family. Apart from souvenirs, the mall also houses products such as branded watches, clothes, footwear, entertainment zones and food court. It keeps products from all your favourite brands such as Spencer’s, Adidas, United Colours of Benetton, Lee Cooper and Levis. So, if you are fond of brand products, this destination is for you. Since my husband prefers branded products, we came to this place on our last visit to get t-shirts for him for his birthday. He was quite happy with the product quality and wanted to visit here again on the next tour.

Hopefully, with the list above, you have made up your mind, where to go and where to skip. But I would suggest you tour around all these destinations, for each has its beauty and will serve in the best possible way. If coming by flight, Kolkata airport hosts both domestic and international travel plans.
